Hi everyone,

It is sunny and hot here in the Seattle area.

I'm posting for you a new art page with my classy, elegant, natural, organic, uplifting, colorful, affordable 'Rain Paintings' complementing real interiors.  'Rain Painting' - Interiors.

I currently see too much art in houses where children reside which is predominated with black and brown coloring.
My immediate response to this art is a feeling of depression.  Black and brown are colors pull you down to the earth.

Why not buy art which includes blues, pastel colors, greens, and yellows.  Colors which lift you up and bring joy to your world!

Yes, I have a BFA degree in design from CCA (a top art school), and I worked in some of the largest design firms in the world.  I know what class and elegance is.
I have been a fine artist for over 25 years.

The 'Two Maple Leaves'  Rain Painting I'm showing here will be For Sale and part of the
Edmonds Arts Festival which takes place this coming weekend - June 19-21st.
After two years and four series of experimenting with the 'Rain Paintings', I feel they have arrived at an elegant and beautiful fruition.   Having sold two already, I currently have 10 'Rain Paintings' left of the current series.

If you are interested in buying a 'Rain Painting' you can email me at: bassnlegs@aol.com

Thank you,
Laurie Miller

My Dream of Playing on the David Letterman Show!

Hi everyone,

I Want to Play on Your Show
Yes, today is the last day for David Letterman to be on the air.
Hopefully, Bill Murray convinced David to change his mind about retiring after his rally last night!

One of my dreams was to play on the David Letterman show.
I always loved his style of comedy, and I like how he treats his performers.
I am also a hoosier girl, and I was born in the same hospital as David Letterman.   My father, Sayers J  Miller, was inducted into the Ball State University Athletic Hall of Fame - year 2000.

My father was also the first athletic trainer to be employed at Ball State University.
So, I have roots in Muncie and Ball State University.

I have made my living as a professional musician and artist my entire life.  I have played close to 4,000 professional gigs, and I have played a few tours (bass for the Hendrix family Guitar Competition Tour, etc.)  I have released five CDs, and I'm currently working on my new CD titled: 'Listen People'.

My new song, 'I Want to Play on Your Show!' popped into my head in March, and we completed the video for it the first weekend in May.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that David Letterman will change his mind and not retire, or he will be so bored when he is retired that he will want to come back to TV land, and then..... I can
still play on the David Letterman show!  'I Want to Play on Your Show!'
We love you David Letterman.  Thank you for the entertainment! #David Letterman #ThanksDave

There are only eight more days till David Letterman retires!

Check out the video and share with your friends if you like it!

New fun song for your Friday!

Hi everyone!

TGIF!
I have always desired to play on the David Letterman show for a couple of reasons:
we were both born in Muncie Indiana  (my dad has a scholarship in his name at Ball State - Sayers John Miller Jr. - he was a founding father of sports medicine - since his passing) and,
I love the way David treats all of the musicians who perform on his show.

I know with less than a month till Dave leaves CBS it might be a long shot, but this song popped into my head only a few weeks ago.
I will be uploading a fun video featuring the song, 'I Want to Play on Your Show' -
this Sunday - April 26th (my birthday!).

This the first song that I wrote and play the ukulele on.
I hope you enjoy listening to this fun lighthearted song!

Here is a link to the 'I Want to Play on Your Show' song:
I will have a video up on Sunday - April 26th - my birthday!

I also created a fun page for The David Letterman Late Show:

I'll be posting the video soon!
I hope you all have a nice day!

'Take My Hand' - Video

Good Morning!
I added a new video, 'Take My Hand' to Youtube this morning.  My son, Michael, produced and added his beautiful photography to the video.
'Take My Hand' is a romantic ballad I wrote a few years ago.  I first included a version of the
song on the Missing Children - 'Wants and Needs' CD.
This video includes the latest version of the song recorded in early 2000's and it is included on three of my CDs: 'Tall Tales', 'Fornicated Infinity', and 'I Like You'.
'Take My Hand' features a solo by Randy Hansen.

I you have a wonderful day, and that my video can bring some beauty to your world.

Go Hawks! Super bowl 49 - 2015!

Seahawks Kitty

Hi everyone,

Super bowl Sunday is here!  The Seahawks are a contender for the win a second year in a row!
Way to go!

I have been busy working on the evolution of my 'Rain Paintings' for almost two years now.
I'm really happy with the way the latest series of 'Rain Paintings' turned out when I added mettalic gold paint in the mix.
When creating the Rain Paintings I love the random element which lends itself to the 'one of a kind'  unique quality of the abstract paintings.  Art is after all the cumulation of one's choices and decisions.  For the artist part in the creation of the Rain Paintings, I choose what colors to put on the canvases, when, how much paint, and how long to keep the canvases in the rain, etc.  The rain, or mother nature, adds another random factor of how much paint is washed off or lightly blended together.
I have also started to recycle Rain Paintings from previous series.  The recycling element is creating a very beautiful attractive layering effect to the paintings.

'Marshawn Lynch Skittles'  - 30" x 40"

The two Rain Paintings which I recycled from previous series and turned into 'Seahawks Paintings' are the 'Marshawn Lynch Skittles' painting 30" x 40", and the 'Go Hawks' painting 30" x 40".
With the 'Marshawn Lynch Skittles' painting I first added water balloons and fluorescent colors.  Then I added about 3 -4 more layers of paint, and finally I added colored puff balls and colored fuzzy sticks.
The 'Marshawn Lynch Skittles' painting has turned into a vibrant, fun, lively painting.

'Go Hawks' - 30" x 40"
The 'Go Hawks' painting was originally a drip painting from the second series.  I added Seahawks colors to the painting during the NFC Championship game.  I have added more Seahawks colors paint to the painting about six times, and I will add the final paint tomorrow during the Super bowl.
The 'Go Hawks' painting is looking beautiful!

I have decided to triple my original prices on both paintings if the Seahawks win the Super bowl,
and 50% of the proceeds will be donated to a Women Against Domestic Violence cause.

Go Seahawks!!

Laurie

Belated Happy New Year!

As I said in the title of this blog,
"Happy New Year!"
I hope you, as in everyone, are having a great year so far.

I've been very busy that past few weeks creating a new series of 'Rain Paintings'.
They look beautiful, and I am having pictures taken of them on Sunday.
I will be sharing soon!

My throat is finally healing from the endoscopy procedure I had last fall.
They found numerous ulcers and diverticulitis.  It was debilitatingly painful.  I'm glad to be healing from all symptoms, so I can get back to finishing my new CD, 'Listen People'.
I posted on YouTube the inspiring, 'Listen People' song.

Have a nice day!
Laurie

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is upon us once more.
There is so much to be grateful for, and I pray for peace where there is currently turmoil.

The photo above is from the current 3rd series of 'Rain Paintings'. They are turning out nicely,
and maple leaves have found a new home on the canvases.
Here is a youtube link to the 1st series of 'Rain Paintings' accompanied with part of my Inanna's Dream solo piano song.

I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday!

Jack Frost is Nipping at My Toes!

'Listen People' Cover Art
Hi everyone,

It is getting cold outside, brrrrr!
I hope everyone is staying warm.
I'm recovering well from my medical problems this summer.
My throat is still healing from an endoscopy I had in September, but I'm confident I'll be able to sing and finish my new CD, 'Listen People', soon.

In the meantime, I'm releasing the songs I recorded earlier this year as singles.
I've released  'Boring Remix' and 'Listen People' this past month!
Thank you to Sean Walker for producing and engineering this project, and to all of the musicians who have contributed their
talents so far.

'Listen People' has a positive message when makes you feel better to listen to it!

'Boring Remix' is a fun dance song!

We are in the process of creating videos for all of my songs, and here is a video teaser for the 'Boring Remix' song.  Thank you Michael Wittenbrink for directing the videos.

We are also continually updating my music web site - Laurie Miller Music.
If you get a chance, check it out!

 Have a wonderful day!

Beautiful Piano/Cello song - Rise to Live! and Boring -Dance Remix

Hi everyone,

I hope your summer is going well!  :  )
Video shoot/party for 'Boring' dance remix  (here is a sample of the song)
Boring - Dance Remix August 23 - email me - bassnlegs@aol.com  if you are interested in participating.

Progress is being made on the CD.  Here is a clip of the Beautiful Piano/Cello song- Featuring Rachael Beaver playing the cello. This song will start the CD - 'Rising to Live' - Piano/Cello - Rise to Live
Slow but steady.
I had a couple of obstacles to overcome these past few months (illnesses, injuries, and my internal hard drive died), but I'm currently in less pain.

I'm shooting for a release date this Fall/Winter 2014.
I have another studio date scheduled for the end of August, so after that I'll be better able to estimate the completion date.  I will be releasing the songs as digital downloads individually too - starting with the
'Boring' dance remix by Teal Douville.

Good News!  The 'I Like You' remix of my song - again by Teal Douville placed as a Finalist (top 5) in the Dance category in the Song of the Year contest!

I've also updated my Art website - www.lauriemillermodernart.com which includes the Rain Painting series - money from the funding went towards the Rain Paintings. It costs a lot for canvases and paint.  Rain paintings use a lot of acrylic paint - a lot of paint is washed away - :  )

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far, and if anyone would like to Give - for the final recording sessions  and CD printing - it is greatly appreciated :  )

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far for their kindness and support!
I'll talk to you soon!
Love,
Laurie

Beautiful Rain Paintings!

Good morning!  I'm still getting familiar with the new Blogger format since Google has now taken over Blogger.  I'm still learning how to navigate this site, and from feedback from my "followers" listed on this site, none of them have been notified about my new postings. Great!  I'm still posting as a personal journal!
If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know. I guess Google is also taking over Youtube.  Baaahaahaa!  Soon they will own the world!  It makes you wonder about our government's non-monopoly laws?  Hmmm!
I'm going to take a second here to reintroduce myself and to tell you what I'm currently working on.
I am a Fine Artist (I have a BFA in Design from CCA), a Recording Artist (5 CDs Published), a Professional Musician (25 years or more playing paid bass gigs/tours), and a Business Owner (Private Music Teaching Lessons - I teach: Piano, Violin, Guitar, Bass, Ukulele, and Voice).  Currently I finished a new series of 'Rain Paintings' in April, which turned out beautiful!

'Rain Paintings' - My 'Rain Paintings' take a little over a month to manifest.  They are created with the help of 'Mother Nature'.  I reapplied acrylic paint about 10 different times over a six week time period to canvases that were laid flat on the cement area in the back of my house.  During this time period from March through April 2014, here in the Seattle area we received an enormous amount of rain.  Several times after I applied new paint a downpour would occur and wash all the new paint away.  Arrgh, back to square one!
It was exciting to peer out the glass of my back door, when it was raining, to see how the paintings were evolving.  My son created this youtube slide show for me which features a section from my solo piano song, Inanna's Dream. 'Rain Paintings' - Youtube.
Michael, my son, and I are also working on editing a documentary short video which shows me creating my rain paintings.

I'm offering 10% off all of my art till the end of August.
www.lauriemillermodernart.com

I'm thinking of having a Jam/Art open studio party August 23rd.  Let me know what you think?

Thanks again for reading, looking and listening, and ignoring grammatical errors since I can't see clearly in the mornings (or any other time really - lol).

Have a nice day!
xoxoxo,
Laurie

Art and Life!

Good morning everyone!  Even though I have sleep in my eyes and my thoughts are jumbled, if I don't post in the morning it never happens.
One huge motivating factor for posting to my blog again is Facebook, where I was posting weekly, removed six months of my postings for every year I've been on Facebook without notifying me.  Gone.  Everything I thought about and shared was wiped out and gone!  Like a bomb wiping out a city.  A part of my history is now gone.  Oh well, I'm now a forward marching soldier into the world of blogging.  Even though my blog says I have 38 followers, it seems now that my blog is Google hosted, none of my followers receive my notifications when I post.  So I guess for now, until I figure out how to relink to my followers and to find other places to post, this blog will be my personal journal. Kind of cool!  I hope I don't rant and rave and spill too many beans. Lol!
Okay, what is currently happening with me?   I'm finally feeling better, and yes I have a smile on my face.  I have been fighting an intestinal bug for a couple of months now.  I was waking up with horrible intestinal cramping and then severe diarrhea.  I would have to take four Imodium Ads in the morning to make it through my music teaching day, or to make it through my recording sessions in April, and even to make it through the conference I attended in LA, and then I would collapse at night.  It has made a huge dent in my energy level and in my ability to get things done.  So, yeah, I'm glad to finally be feeling better.  Now I have a ton of house cleaning and organizing, business, music business, art business, and social media to complete.
My drawing, 'Christmas Dance', will be exhibited this coming weekend at the Juried Gallery of the Edmonds Arts Festival.  It is for Sale!  Yahoo!
I'm getting ready to finish and release a new CD - I love my new tracks - they are the best ever!
I'm also planning on submitting for new gallery shows with my beautiful new 'Rain Painting' series, and finishing the documentary film associated with the 'Rain Paintings'.
You can view my art at my art site: www.lauriemillermodernart.com.

Thank you for looking and reading, and if anyone can tell me how to notify my followers or to link my postings, I would greatly appreciate it.

xoxo,
Laurie
