'Take My Hand' - Video

Good Morning!
I added a new video, 'Take My Hand' to Youtube this morning.  My son, Michael, produced and added his beautiful photography to the video.
'Take My Hand' is a romantic ballad I wrote a few years ago.  I first included a version of the
song on the Missing Children - 'Wants and Needs' CD.
This video includes the latest version of the song recorded in early 2000's and it is included on three of my CDs: 'Tall Tales', 'Fornicated Infinity', and 'I Like You'.
'Take My Hand' features a solo by Randy Hansen.

I you have a wonderful day, and that my video can bring some beauty to your world.

Belated Happy New Year!

As I said in the title of this blog,
"Happy New Year!"
I hope you, as in everyone, are having a great year so far.

I've been very busy that past few weeks creating a new series of 'Rain Paintings'.
They look beautiful, and I am having pictures taken of them on Sunday.
I will be sharing soon!

My throat is finally healing from the endoscopy procedure I had last fall.
They found numerous ulcers and diverticulitis.  It was debilitatingly painful.  I'm glad to be healing from all symptoms, so I can get back to finishing my new CD, 'Listen People'.
I posted on YouTube the inspiring, 'Listen People' song.

Have a nice day!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is upon us once more.
There is so much to be grateful for, and I pray for peace where there is currently turmoil.

The photo above is from the current 3rd series of 'Rain Paintings'. They are turning out nicely,
and maple leaves have found a new home on the canvases.
Here is a youtube link to the 1st series of 'Rain Paintings' accompanied with part of my Inanna's Dream solo piano song.

I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday!

Jack Frost is Nipping at My Toes!

'Listen People' Cover Art
Hi everyone,

It is getting cold outside, brrrrr!
I hope everyone is staying warm.
I'm recovering well from my medical problems this summer.
My throat is still healing from an endoscopy I had in September, but I'm confident I'll be able to sing and finish my new CD, 'Listen People', soon.

In the meantime, I'm releasing the songs I recorded earlier this year as singles.
I've released  'Boring Remix' and 'Listen People' this past month!
Thank you to Sean Walker for producing and engineering this project, and to all of the musicians who have contributed their
talents so far.

'Listen People' has a positive message when makes you feel better to listen to it!

'Boring Remix' is a fun dance song!

We are in the process of creating videos for all of my songs, and here is a video teaser for the 'Boring Remix' song.  Thank you Michael Wittenbrink for directing the videos.

We are also continually updating my music web site - Laurie Miller Music.
If you get a chance, check it out!

 Have a wonderful day!

Art and Life!

Good morning everyone!  Even though I have sleep in my eyes and my thoughts are jumbled, if I don't post in the morning it never happens.
One huge motivating factor for posting to my blog again is Facebook, where I was posting weekly, removed six months of my postings for every year I've been on Facebook without notifying me.  Gone.  Everything I thought about and shared was wiped out and gone!  Like a bomb wiping out a city.  A part of my history is now gone.  Oh well, I'm now a forward marching soldier into the world of blogging.  Even though my blog says I have 38 followers, it seems now that my blog is Google hosted, none of my followers receive my notifications when I post.  So I guess for now, until I figure out how to relink to my followers and to find other places to post, this blog will be my personal journal. Kind of cool!  I hope I don't rant and rave and spill too many beans. Lol!
Okay, what is currently happening with me?   I'm finally feeling better, and yes I have a smile on my face.  I have been fighting an intestinal bug for a couple of months now.  I was waking up with horrible intestinal cramping and then severe diarrhea.  I would have to take four Imodium Ads in the morning to make it through my music teaching day, or to make it through my recording sessions in April, and even to make it through the conference I attended in LA, and then I would collapse at night.  It has made a huge dent in my energy level and in my ability to get things done.  So, yeah, I'm glad to finally be feeling better.  Now I have a ton of house cleaning and organizing, business, music business, art business, and social media to complete.
My drawing, 'Christmas Dance', will be exhibited this coming weekend at the Juried Gallery of the Edmonds Arts Festival.  It is for Sale!  Yahoo!
I'm getting ready to finish and release a new CD - I love my new tracks - they are the best ever!
I'm also planning on submitting for new gallery shows with my beautiful new 'Rain Painting' series, and finishing the documentary film associated with the 'Rain Paintings'.
You can view my art at my art site: www.lauriemillermodernart.com.

Thank you for looking and reading, and if anyone can tell me how to notify my followers or to link my postings, I would greatly appreciate it.

xoxo,
Laurie

Lights Out

Hola! Okey dokey.

Another super duper sloppy quickie! I played a gig with Brianstorm tonight after teaching today, and I can't feel my left arm. It was fun. We rocked out! My friend Marky Mark suggested my blog title for tonight, 'Lights Out.' I have my title and David Cook's name linked to his song 'Come Back to Me.' David is now one of my new favorite artist.
Nighty Night. xxoo

Lights Out
Lights out
What is this about?
A mystery of sorts
Which can cause blue doubt
I decided to change my mind
Not always
Just some of the time
Trying to walk my path
But alas,
I’ve taken the shortcut
Through the grass
Lights out
Blue doubt
Lights out
What is this about?

Debussy Debussy

Hi! Sunday night while I was writing my blog, the beautiful harmonies of Debussy's La Mer (The Sea) filled the air waves. Laying down and closing my eyes I was transported to the center of a wonderful dream. So, tonight's blog posting is inspired by the French Impressionist composer Claude Debussy. I have enjoyed the soothing, peaceful, and romantic music of Debussy since I was in high school. Debussy's Reverie is one of my favorite songs to play on the piano. Maybe I'll try transferring it to the bass someday. Nighty night. xxoo
Debussy

Debussy Debussy
Debussy Debussy
What do you see
In your impressionistic musings
Climbing the whole tone scale
In new ways
While Turner listens through his
Watercolor haze
Perfecting your harmonic chemistry
With successions of floating chords
Looking for their 3rds
In incomprehensible Symbolist words
Enchanting Eastern modes
Expressing elusive impressions
Of your dreams
This to you Debussy
Is what your music means

Should I Close My Eyes

Hi everyone! I taught some piano lessons today, and then I played a gig in Des Moines at The Lighthouse with Tim Turner and Billy Spaulding. Playing music in bars is a hard life, maybe someday soon I can find a different environment to play music in. Anyway, since arriving home an hour ago these words popped into my head along with a melody. Nighty night. xxoo

Should I Close My Eyes
Should I close my eyes
To the truth
Should I turn my back on me
Should I pretend
Everything is okay
While you keep disrespecting me
How far should I bend
To keep the fragile peace
How much should I take
You keep pushing my boundaries
Your addictions have
Turned your heart cold
You won’t listen to me
Your addictions have made you
Emotionally unavailable to everyone
But you can’t see
Should I close my eyes
To the truth
Should I blindly believe
Should I close my eyes to the truth
Should I betray me

Drunken Bass

Okay, well I have five minutes to complete and post my blog. Last night I got home at 3 am after playing a gig with a blues/punk band, Blue 55. I got about 4 hours of sleep and taught some music lessons today, and then I set up my music studio so that I can compose and post music to my blog. I wrote my first song with the Pro tools set up using a conga loop and my stand up bass. The song sounded like drunken bass, hence the inspiration and title for my poem and illustration. Once I figure out how to post music on here, I'll add the track.

Drunken Bass

Drunken bass
Sliding down your strings
Yeow, woo, woo
That is how
Your song goes
Behind the beat a bit
Then slightly faster
Woo, wo, wo, woo
Is how the
Song of the drunken bass flows
